You know it’s a good message when the listeners can instantly recall what it was about, and reflect positively on it. I was told that Wayne Boehm’s Morning program was very good, and that he spoke about how “we need to grow through sorrowful things and live a daily life to benefit not only us but others too.”

One question that went straight to the heart: In the middle of Jacob’s struggle came a surprisingly simple question: “What is your name?” Years earlier, seeking his father’s blessing, Jacob had claimed to be Esau. This time, he answered honestly. No disguise. No pretending to be someone else. Pastor Wayne drew out a beautiful thought: Jacob was finally owning his past in the presence of Christ. And there, in that moment of honesty, God blessed him.
Don’t wait until you’ve sorted yourself out: If you ever felt you needed to get your life together before coming to God here is a welcome reminder. Jacob came with his failures, his fear and a desperate need for forgiveness. God met him there. His blessing grew out of grace and mercy, not a reward for an impressive record. The invitation for us is just as personal: come to Christ as you are, and hold on.
